Playtest Edition Now Live

Today, I’m sharing the first public draft of The Long Road — a GM-less, cooperative roleplaying game about medieval pilgrims walking toward a distant shrine.
This version is fully playable. It includes:
-
Complete rules for character creation and play
-
Emotional mechanics built around Hope, Burden, Strain, and Doubt
-
Printable tools like a Memory Tracker and Pointcrawl Map Template
-
Two example journeys: one to Canterbury, one to a quiet local shrine
-
Tables for weather, omens, burdens, saints, and more
This game is meant to be quiet, honest, and a little strange. There are no monsters to slay, no coins to count—just the people beside you, the road beneath your feet, and the weight you carry.
Looking for Feedback
This is a playtest release, and I’d love to hear what you think.
Questions I’m asking:
-
Was anything unclear or confusing?
-
How did the emotional mechanics feel in play?
-
Did any scene or moment stand out—good or bad?
-
What would help you run or introduce the game more smoothly?
You can leave feedback in the Itch comments or send it privately. Even one-sentence impressions help a lot.
Next Steps
Once I gather feedback, I’ll revise the rules, clarify rough spots, and expand the content if needed. A final version will follow, with clean print layouts and possibly physical copies for those interested.
Thanks for walking this far with me.
— The road is yours to finish.
