Infernal Whiskers
A solo journaling RPG about demonic possession, feline instincts, and unexpected tenderness
You were once a prince of ash — whispering temptation into emperors’ ears, commanding shadows, and reshaping human will with a glance.
Now you knock cups off tables and nap in sunbeams.
Infernal Whiskers is a solo journaling roleplaying game set in the modern world, where a failed possession has left a powerful demon trapped inside the body of a domestic cat. You’ll draw cards to prompt moments of confusion, cruelty, affection, memory — and change.
Will you escape this furry prison?
Will you twist these humans to your will?
Or will something small and warm soften the ash where your soul used to be?
How It Works
You’ll need:
-
A standard 54-card deck (including Jokers)
-
Something to write with (journal, document, voice notes — your choice)
Each scene begins by drawing one card.
-
The suit tells you the tone (memory, emotion, power, etc.)
-
The value tells you how big or small the moment is
-
Use the result to guide your journal entry — or refer to the optional prompt tables for inspiration
Play continues for as many scenes as you like. Your story ends when you choose — with redemption, corruption, escape, or acceptance.
Tone and Themes
This is a game of:
-
Identity and contradiction
-
Emotional drift and strange attachments
-
Power reshaped by vulnerability
-
Horror, humour, melancholy, and warmth — often in the same breath
You decide the tone: absurd, eerie, tragic, or tender.
Example Character
Name: Vyrik, the Hollow Hunger
Sin: Greed
Binding: A corrupt merchant summoned him for eternal wealth. A housecat intervened.
Cat Form: A sleek grey tom with torn ears and mismatched eyes (green and gold)
Goal: Escape and claim the merchant’s soul
Card Draw: 4 of Hearts — Emotion, Affection
Prompt: You catch yourself purring. What stirred it?
His daughter lifts me from the sill. “Dusty,” she whispers.
I purr.
Not for manipulation. Not to charm.
It slips out like memory.
It frightens me more than Hell.
What You Need
