Dead Man’s Errand (Playtest Edition)
A Solo Storytelling Game of Souls, Memory, and Endings
"Some doors are closed with a whisper. Some with a shout. Some, you must close yourself."
You are a modern-day Reaper. Not the famous one. Not the feared one.
Just the one who shows up when the list appears in your pocket.
Dead Man’s Errand is a solo storytelling game about collecting souls whose time has come — and navigating the bittersweet, strange, and sometimes funny encounters that come with the job.
Play out a shift where you’ll guide eight souls to their final crossing, facing stubborn spirits, grieving families, nosy neighbours, and the occasional angry cat.
Your Reaper isn’t a villain or a hero. Just a bureaucratic miracle worker in a battered coat, doing a quiet job no one sees.
Tell stories like:
-
Convincing an old punk rocker he’s late for everything — not just his next gig.
-
Calming a ghost who mistakes you for a pizza delivery.
-
Running from a horde of stray cats guarding a cemetery.
-
Confronting your own doubts about what it means to say goodbye.
What You Need to Play
-
Three six-sided dice (3d6)
-
A standard deck of playing cards
-
A pen and notebook (or a document to record your journey)
-
A quiet moment and a willingness to explore small, meaningful stories
Tone & Style
-
Dark humour
-
Bittersweet moments
-
Modern setting: city streets, hospital corridors, empty cafes
-
Humanity and kindness
